May 24 - Beach day

Found Lu a Doggy Daycare so we could play at the ocean a bit.

First stop was breakfast and this little island Cafe and all their tables were a shadow box style filled with shells in all different patterns.

First shelling beach was a good one, the waves were pretty strong which made for  quick hands when you spotted a good one!

Parking is at a premium on Sanibel and Captiva Island. Absolutely no parking outside the few parking lots. Beach parking here....$5 an hour.

Many people here have the shell cage sticks for grabbing shells....we did it the old fashioned way....lots of fun.

Drove down this one small island road with a vacant lot and it was absolutely covered in these large green iguanas. They were scurrying everywhich way.

Apparently they are quite invasive and the islands have been having them captured and removed.

Stopped for a coronarita and snack....it's a margaritta with a mini bottle of Corona turned upside down in....yum yum

Then back to another beach and another $5 an hour parking..

There was a bridge crossing a waterway to the ocean and we saw our first manatees.

The water was very brackish so all you could see was the noses and little bit of the backs of the manatees...kinda look like stumps in the water. But cool to finally see them.

This is what they look like when you can see them in cleat water. They are so adorable!
Also saw lots of jumping fish called mullet fish. They were pretty cool but too time consuming to try to catch a picture off but this is what they looked like.  Some jump up to 3 feet out of the water!

The most adorable painting we saw while picking up Lu.....

My haul for the day!
